Lake of 10,000
True to it's Minnesota birthright Battle Lake is full of...well lakes. Elbow Lake, First Silver Lake, Beauty Shore Lake, Clitherall Lake, South Turtle Lake, Fiske Lake and Larson Lake are all close neighbors to the head honcho, Battle Lake. The Deets
The town is 1.2 square miles. It has a Dairy Queen, hosts turtle races and hawks the region's best confectionary: Nut Goodies.Think gooey melty blob-like Snickers bars. Once home to the Sioux and Chippewa tribes the area's current ethnic roots unsurprisingly draw upon Norwegian ancestry.

Bright red houses with white rim rest along the lake's 32 mile perimeter. Summertime gardens, weathered porch swings and hunky dory men proudly riding lawn mowers are a clear sign that I am no longer in southern California. And by the way, there aren't any fences here. It's the way living was meant to be.
Buck Burgers at the Old Brick begin the weekend unwind every thursday night. Hog roasts and lakeside concerts distill summertime bliss to its purest form: ease. Born on the west shore, retired on the east, locals live their lives lakeside. A day on the pontoon brings back twenty trout, a suntan and deep wrinkles from deep smiles.
